On the 11th of October 2016, President of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society and a member of the National Parliament Mr. Novruz Aslanov received the head of the Baku Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross Elena Sessera and the IFRC Regional Cooperation Coordinator for the Southern Caucasus countries Gregory Le Coq.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss and comment activities carried out within the framework of cooperation established between the two organizations and to define further joint steps and activities. The President of the Az.RC Mr. Novruz Aslanov welcomed the guests and expressed his satisfaction with cooperation relations established between the two organizations.
The analysis of results of joint activities (joint activities in April incidents, First Aid training. Summer Camp and etc) carried out up to present day just shows that both organizations based on their mandate and by adhering to the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement are moving in a transparent strategic direction and providing a relevant support to socially vulnerable groups of population.
Elena Sessera in her turn noted that activities carried out up to present day are worthy. As a next step it is planned to make these activities more extensive and perfect. Elena Sessera highly appreciated support and assistance provided by the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society and thanked Mr. Novruz Aslanov for it.
At the same time it was noted that it is important to develop Preparedness and Sustainability Plan in order to be prepared for any crisis and disaster. Being a comprehensive document this Plan must reflect assistance that could be provided within the Movement and outside of Movement, as well as by governmental and non-governmental organizations in time of conflicts, both natural and technological disasters. The draft of the Plan is ready, however it is necessary to update it and to prepare a final version of the Plan.
The IFRC Regional Cooperation Coordinator for the Southern Caucasus countries Gregory Le Coq noted a productive meeting on Preparedness and Sustainability Plan that representatives of the ICRC and the Az.RC have had at the Ministry for Emergency Situations. The meeting clarified some issues related with the Plan and further measures in this direction.
At the end of the meeting Mr. Novruz Aslanov and Elena Sessera expressed their hope that such bilateral cooperation between the Az.RC and the ICRC would be effective, productive and sustainable.
