The next annual meeting of First Aid Education European Network (FAEEN) was held from 20 to 24th of September 2017 in Sutomore city of Montenegro. The representatives from 70 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Europe and South America attended the meeting. The representatives from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) also participated at the meeting.
The theme of the meeting and an objective for the next year was teaching first aid skills to each member of a family.
Before holding discussions on the theme the participants of the meeting heard reports from the last year meeting. The representatives from the Red Cross and Red Crescent national societies in attendance presented information on changes, progresses, innovations on First Aid (the use of new technologies, peer First Aid teaching, taking into account features of environment, preparation of First Aid programs for a number of target groups) made on national societies level throughout the year to the meeting.
With respect to the theme it was expected that replies would be given to a number of questions. Among these questions were: Do National Societies need Fist Aid standards? Availability of these standards is important or not? Is there a need for a preparation of in-country Strategic Review Document and monitoring of the level of knowledge on First Aid? Do National Societies have sufficient potential for making this or other innovations?
Discussions in working groups have revealed that the National Societies have already made preparations for the above-mentioned works. However, in order to strengthen these works in-country conditions, needs, opportunities, the National Societies’ relations with government structures should be taken into account. In order to make more progress in this field a cooperation between the National Societies, the International Federation, the International Committee of the Red Cross and relevant partners must be strengthened. The Movement’s components support to each other must be strengthened as well.
At the end of the meeting the participants expressed their appreciation to the Governing Committee of FAEEN and the leadership of the Red Cross Society of Montenegro for organizing such interesting meeting.
We would like to remind that the main objective of Fist Aid Education European Network which was established in October 2002 is to develop First Aid in European Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies, to present qualitative First Aid education programs and teaching methods and to share experience.
The Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society was represented at the FAEEN meeting by Deputy Executive Secretary Sabina Mahbubi-Iran. The next meeting of FAEEN will be held in September 2018 in Slovenia.
