Migration is a complex public process affecting many sides of a social-economic life of any country. A flow of migrants into Azerbaijan has started in the year 2000.
A state policy in the field of migration is being successfully carried out in our Republic. Along with other state bodies in our country the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society has been working with migrants and provides regularly humanitarian assistance to them. The AzRC also helps migrants to integrate into a society.
Free of charge Azerbaijan language course of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society for migrants has been functioning for almost 5 years in our country. The course was organized at the initiative of President of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society and member of the National Parliament Dr. Novruz Aslanov as a support to social integration of migrants in our country. Providing support to social integration of migrants is one of the objectives arising from resolution No.3 endorsed by the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society on behalf of the state of Azerbaijan at the 31st General Assembly of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in 2011 in Geneva city of Switzerland.
The Azerbaijan language course is being held at the office building of “HAYAT” international refugee women and youth center. The duration of Azerbaijan language course is 9 months. At the end of the course the graduates receive relevant certificates. An employee of Migration department of the Az.RC Mrs. Sona Hajiyeva works as a teacher at Azerbaijan language course for migrants. This year 34 migrants graduated from the Azerbaijan language course of the National Society and they were given relevant certificates.
Along with teaching Azerbaijan language to migrants Sona Hajiyeva, the Azerbaijan language course teacher also informs migrant students about literature, history, geography of Azerbaijan, the activities of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society. Sona Hajiyeva also familiarize migrants with Azerbaijani cuisine.
On the National holidays Sona Hajiyeva organizes tours for migrant students to the museums, theatres and historical places of Baku city, Children and Youth Center under the Ombudsman Office. Migrant students are invited to participate in different events organized on the occasion of the New Year, Novruz (Spring) holiday, The international Day for Protection of Children.
Besides teaching the Azerbaijani language to migrants and their children Sona Hajiyeva also tries to assist migrants with food parcels, clothes, household items and etc. She also organizes distribution of Gurban meet portions donated by philanthropists of the AzRC to migrant families on Gurban holidays every year. The Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society also provides humanitarian assistance to migrant students of the Azerbaijani language course when it is possible.
Sona Hajiyeva also organizes celebration of birthdays of migrant students. Together with migrant students she visits elderly alone and ill migrants at their homes. The most vulnerable and ill migrants receive from the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society medical cards to pass a free medical check ups in the Clinic of the Iranian Red Crescent Society in Baku city.
Migrant students say thanks to the President of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society and all staff of Migration department of the National Society for their assistance and care.
